This seminal science fiction thriller recounts the horror of a young boy (Jimmy Hunt) who awakens during a storm to witness a flying saucer land in a field behind his house. This 1953 film still holds up today as a haunting, dreamlike fantasy. Part of its unique appeal is that it offers a child’s eye view of a frightening visitation but its memorably bizarre set design and paranoid tone (a reflection of the “red scare” propaganda of the Eisenhower era) also make it one of the most distinctive American sci-fi films of the fifties.
